Lessons Learned at Makerfaire 2016

Ideas for Makerfaire 2017

  • Make cards for VHS members to put on their tables identifying them as VHS members/projects
  • Business cards with VHS's URL, address, and Tuesday open night info
  • VHS Village was an awesome idea and we should make it happen next year.
  • Have someone photograph all the VHS things, then share the images via… what? Google Docs? WordPress media uploads? VHS needs a place for storing images generally.

Learn-to-Solder improvements

  • Make a bigger deal about transistor polarity
  • Have at least three blinkly badges built as “display models”
  • A big sign/banner.
  • Placing the signup table in the dead centre of the booth with clear signage worked wonderfully
  • Rewrite some sections of the instructions. The LED section is super confusing. A lot of sections need more photographs.
  • Bring spare plastic tips for the desoldering pumps to replace the ones that are too melted.

Info Booth Improvements

  • Cards or pamphlets
  • A better “Who are we” banner
  • Project cards (this is an arduino project that…)
  • More diverse projects - wood, metal, electronics, cosplay
